Today is Swedens national day which my friend Axel usually celebrates by inviting some friends to his family's summer house by the sea for a weekend of fun and relaxing. I joined two years ago and it was so fun I decided to gothis year too. Me, Axel andanother friend named Björn started out friday in a car that we borrowed from another friend. We drove north along the coast to the small island Saltö with only a short stop for supplys. Even though Saltö is an island, it is connected to the main land by bridge. It is situated in the archipelago north of Göteborg - an area normally referd to as the west coast where many people like to go for the summer.
When we got to the house on Saltö we just sat out in the sun relaxing for a while. One more guy, Emil, who ironically is the owner of the car joind us a while later on motorcyckle. After relaxing for a while and chatting about god knows what, we prepared some chicken and vegtable shiskebab and made a nice barbeque dinner. The rest of the evening we played some games and continues talking and having fun.
We woke up late to a bright sunny saturday and had breakfast out on the porch. After breakfast it was time for the annual all terrain croquet game. Its just regular croquet but the hoops are placed at some rather hard to reach places. Even though I lost it was fun. Then we had some lunch consisiting of a series of different suasages that we planned to barbeque. However, the barbeque (a gas one) was acting up so we fried them instead and it was almost just as good. After lunch we headed out to a series of cliffs that are good for swimming, too bad the clouds came out to cover the sun and the wind picked up a bit in strength. It became slightly too cold to go for a swim so we chatted for a while then went for a walk.
When we came back from our walk we made an effort to figure out what was wrong with the barbeque and managed to fix the problem temporarily. By the time we got that done, we had to start making dinner. We made spareribs with ovenbaked root crops (potatoes, yams and the like). This was actually a rahter advanced meal and you might think a couple of young guys would have made something simpler, like a steak and a bucket of reayd made potatoesallad. To compenstae for the grown-up-ness of the meal we simply made a gargantuan amount of food (probably enough for 8 people) and finsished it all.
Ready for a nice dinner. From the left, Axel, Emil and Björn
After such a big meal, with lots of talking and laughter in between moutfuls, we were to tired to do much but watch TV. Today we slept long as well, had breakfast and cleaned up to go home. Some of us have to work tomorrow, after all.
